Elbow - cast bronze sculpture by Trace Meek

Elbow

1992, cast bronze, private collection

First I cast my elbow in alginate (the stuff that dentists use to get an imprint of teeth). Then I poured molten wax into that negative mold to arrive at a wax positive.

Using the complex and ancient cire perdu (lost wax) technique, I cast the piece in bronze and finished it with a copper patina.
